About Heavys

About Heavys

We built the headphone brand that didn't exist yet.

Heavys is the world's first audio company engineered specifically for Rock & Heavy music. We make headphones, earbuds, and gear for the people who treat music as identity — not background noise.

Why we exist

The problem nobody was solving

Rock and metal are among the most complex genres on the planet. Layers of distortion, blast beats, harmonic overtones, vocals cutting through walls of sound — all happening at once. And yet every major headphone brand tunes for pop, podcasts, and the mainstream middle.

One driver per ear. Generic frequency curves. Sound that treats Slipknot and a Zoom call the same way. For the millions of fans who build their lives around heavy music — who follow bands across albums, tours, and decades — that was never good enough.

Heavys was founded to fix that. Not with a marketing angle or a logo on existing hardware, but with a ground-up rethink of what headphones should do when the music actually demands it.

Our approach

Start with the music. Engineer backwards.

We didn't start with a spec sheet. We started with a question: what does heavy music actually need from a headphone to sound the way it was meant to sound?

The answer was a patented 8-driver system — 4 speakers per ear, separating low/mid and high frequencies so each instrument occupies its own space. Tweeters positioned to mimic how live sound travels to your ears. A frequency range from 5 Hz to 46 kHz that captures everything the artist put into the recording.

To make it happen, we brought in Axel Grell — the engineer behind the legendary Sennheiser HD650s, with 27 years and 40+ patents in audio. He didn't come to Heavys to build another headphone. He came because nobody else was solving this problem.

"When you're listening to a Metallica intro which is very nice and soft... you should get goosebumps. When you're listening to speed metal where a lot of things are happening, you should get everything in there." Axel Grell — CTO, Heavys

Every pair ships with an Authenticity Certificate from Axel. It's not decoration. It's a commitment that what you're holding was tuned by someone who tests on Slipknot, Metallica, and diSEMBOWELMENT — and won't sign off until it's right.

The mission

Bringing identity into audio

Heavys isn't just a hardware company. Our mission is to build the place where music fans and the artists they love actually meet — through sound, through design, and through a genuine ecosystem that supports both sides.

That's why we created Shells — interchangeable, officially licensed earcup designs from bands like Queen, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corpse, Dream Theater, Opeth, and 90+ more. They're not cosmetic add-ons. They're wearable fandom. A way to carry your identity on your gear, every day.

And here's the part most people don't know: every Shell purchase pays royalties directly to the artist. Not a flat licensing fee. Ongoing royalties. When you buy a Shell, the band gets paid. That's how we think collabs should work.

The ecosystem

How Heavys connects fans and artists

Most audio brands license a logo and call it a partnership. We built a different model — one where the fan's purchase directly supports the artist, the artist promotes to their community, and the whole ecosystem grows together.

This isn't theoretical. Bands like Testament, Cannibal Corpse, Sylosis, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Sepultura, and dozens more actively promote Heavys to their fanbases — because the relationship is real. 97+ Shell designs and counting, spanning classic rock to extreme metal.

What we believe

Four things that guide everything we make

01

The fan comes first

Not the algorithm, not the trend, not the mainstream. Every decision we make starts with the person who builds their life around music. If it doesn't serve them, we don't ship it.

02

Support the artists

The people who make the music deserve more than a flat licensing check. Our royalty model means every Shell sold is an ongoing revenue stream for the band. We want artists to win when fans buy.

03

Engineer with obsession

Our CTO has 40+ patents and tests on Slipknot. We don't cut corners. 8 drivers, patented placement, frequency response that captures what one driver per ear never could. The tech serves the music.

04

Build community, not a customer base

200,000+ fans across 30+ countries. Weekly metal picks, featured fans, Shell drops timed to tours. Heavys isn't a transaction. It's a home for people who care about this stuff.

The bigger picture

Heavys is bigger than headphones

We started with rock and metal superfans deliberately. Not because it's the only genre worth serving, but because superfans are the proof of concept. Metalheads are the most loyal, most community-driven, most identity-invested music fans on earth. If you can earn their trust, you've built something real.

The identity-into-audio mission isn't genre-locked. It's a framework. Any community with superfans and artists who care about their audience — hip-hop, EDM, country, K-pop, classical — can plug into what we're building. Shells are the physical layer. The app is the software layer. The artist royalty model is the economic layer.

Every other headphone brand is agnostic — they make great audio for everyone, which means they stand for no one in particular. We made the opposite bet: care about the fans, the artists, and the ecosystem. Not just the hardware.

That's the position no competitor can easily copy. Because it requires real artist relationships, genuine community credibility, a platform for fan expression, and software that evolves with the listener. We're building all four.

A note from the team: We read every review. We see the person who cried on the first listen, the husband who finally got "his" headphones, the coworker who bought a pair the next day. That's not marketing data — that's the whole point.

Thanks for being part of this. Rock on. 🤘
