Heavys headphones reviewed by metal vocal coach (Gear Review)

transcript: David Benitez

"Alright, let’s open this up.

Here we go—let’s see what the packaging is like.
Oh wow, that’s cool. That’s a really nice touch.

And the good stuff… I love that there’s a case. That’s really nice. I didn’t realize it was going to be kind of leathery—that’s really cool.

Alright, moment of truth.
Oh, it even has that new-car smell.

Wow, look at that. I really like the way these snap into place. That’s really cool. These are way higher quality and more durable than I expected. A metal headband is always a good sign, and the leather—or leather-like—material feels really nice.

Alright, fit test.
Oh wow, that’s really nice—especially because I have a big head and pretty big ears. This is full coverage. And honestly, even with them off, it’s almost like noise cancelling already. That’s kind of insane.

One of my favorite things about these is the fact that there are drivers in the front of each ear cup, so sound is coming from different directions inside the headphones. That really fascinates me. It actually reminds me a lot of in-ear monitors, with the number of drivers and their placement.

I’m really curious to see what using these HEAVYS headphones is going to be like while tracking in my studio. I’m really excited to try that out.

I’m looking through the specs right now—oh my god, the frequency range on these is insane. I actually wasn’t recording earlier, but I’ve never seen headphones handle this much low end. They go all the way down to 5 Hz. Not fifty—five. That’s wild. And they go all the way up to 46 kHz, which is really impressive.

Even over Bluetooth, the range is 5 Hz to 24 kHz, so you’re still getting all that low end. That’s crazy.

Now that I have these on, it honestly already feels like active noise cancelling—even before turning anything on. I’m moving around at my desk and these aren’t moving at all. One of my biggest issues with headphones, especially when tracking, is that they slide around when I move. These don’t move, but they also don’t feel like they’re clamping down on my head. It’s like they were designed with headbanging in mind.

Metal buttons—that’s nice.
And the sound they make when you turn them on is hilarious and kind of terrifying.

Power on.
Connecting.
Hell Blocker activated.

Wow. It’s like a vacuum—everything just disappears.

I really love the volume dial. When you turn the volume all the way down, there’s a voice that tells you when you’ve hit minimum volume. That’s a really nice feature, especially if you’re cranking it the other way.

Alright, let’s do a sound check—and of course, there’s only one thing I’m going to test this with.

Wow.
The low end is absolutely earth-shattering, but it’s still balanced. I can hear everything. The driver separation is great, the guitars punch through, and even the reverb on the vocals is super clear.

After just listening to a couple of songs on these, I’m honestly in love with these headphones. Thanks to HEAVYS for sending these over.

The real test is going to be tracking with them, so stay tuned for that. I’m really excited to try these out in the studio. They’re super comfortable, they sound great, and I haven’t even tested them with direct audio yet.

I’m excited to hear what that extra high-end frequency range sounds like. If they already sound this good at 5 Hz to 24 kHz, that’s pretty amazing.

I’m going to listen to a lot of music on these, use them to get inspired, and write with them. I’m excited to wear these everywhere."
