I’ve got the HEAVYS H1H over-the-ear headphones. These retail for $269.99.
Let’s get into it.
Design & Build Quality
The first thing I want to talk about is portability. You can fold these up, and they come with a nice semi-rigid hard case that you can use for travel.
They’re pretty compact. Not super compact, but compact enough to make them pretty easy to travel with.
As far as the materials go, I would say the majority, if not all, of the headphones are made out of plastic. There are some small metallic pieces here and there, but for the most part, it’s plastic.
That said, it’s not plastic that feels super light or cheap. It feels pretty premium and very well made.
The padding on the headband is nice and soft and feels really comfortable to the touch. The ear cushions are made of a similar material. They’re very thickly padded, soft, and comfortable on your ears.
On the right side, you have the power switch, which also controls active noise cancellation. There are also backward and forward buttons for cycling through your music.
There’s also a knob to control the volume. Rather than buttons, you actually twist the knob to increase or decrease the volume.
There’s a 2.5 mm jack for a wired connection to your device.
There’s also a USB-C input for charging, which can double as an audio connection.
Another cool feature is that the outside portion of each earcup can actually be removed. HEAVYS sells different shell designs, including designs for different bands and other artwork.
It’s a pretty cool and unique way to customize the headphones.
Real-World Use
I’ve been able to use these a couple of times, both at home and on some recent business trips where I traveled by plane.
Connecting them is pretty simple.
Once they’re paired to a device, they’ll automatically reconnect whenever you turn the headphones back on.
The connection time is pretty quick. Once you turn them on, they connect to your device within about two or three seconds.
You can pair these headphones with multiple devices. You can only be actively connected to one device at a time, but you can pair them with multiple devices and switch between them through the Bluetooth settings.
Sound
When I was listening to audio, playing video games, and watching shows, I noticed that straight out of the box these are quite heavy in the lows.
If you’re listening to a lot of explosions — especially in video games or action movies — these sound really good because they have a lot of bass. They accentuate explosions and that bass-heavy, thumping sound really well.
That’s not to say the other parts of the sound are bad. When it comes to music, dialogue, and the overall dynamic range, they’re still pretty good.
Comfort & Noise Isolation
The ear cushions are extremely comfortable. They’re super thick and isolate sound very, very well.
When you combine that with the active noise cancellation, these do a great job of isolating outside sounds.
They handle what active noise cancellation is supposed to handle, such as the drone of an airplane engine, but they’ll practically block out people talking as well because the ear cushions are so thick and soft and completely surround my ears.
In general, they do a damn good job.
The Positives
These are very well padded and feel very comfortable against your skin.
The active noise cancellation is top-notch. It’s equivalent to what you experience with some of the higher-quality, higher-end Bose over-ear headphones.
These are just as good as those, if not even better.
Another positive is that everything feels premium quality. Nothing feels cheap. Everything feels very well made.
I also like the fact that they’re foldable and fit into the included semi-rigid hard case. The case itself is pretty nice.
Another thing I really like is the volume knob. I actually prefer turning a knob instead of pushing volume buttons up and down. It feels more natural, almost like adjusting the volume on a stereo.
The sound coming out of these also gets a lot louder than almost every other pair of headphones I’ve tried.
